Day 15 – The Trishul: The Power of Balance

Piercing Through Illusion, Awakening to Truth

In every depiction of Shiva, one symbol always stands tall beside Him – the Trishul, the sacred trident. Three sharp points, one steady handle – fierce, yet perfectly balanced.

For years, I saw it merely as a weapon – a symbol of destruction, of power. But as my journey deepened, I realized the Trishul is not about violence. It is about clarity. It destroys not the world, but the illusions that bind us to it.

Each prong of the Trishul carries a silent lesson: Creation, Preservation, and Destruction — the three forces that sustain existence. Past, Present, and Future – the three dimensions of time that our mind drifts between. Body, Mind, and Spirit – the three layers we must harmonize to awaken.

The Trishul is not something outside Shiva. It is His essence — calm yet capable of piercing through anything untrue.

In my own life, I often found myself clinging to one side of existence , to creation when I sought new beginnings, to preservation when I feared change, to destruction when I wanted to break free. But Shiva’s Trishul reminds me:

Balance is not found in choosing one – it is in embracing all three.

To walk toward Shiva is to learn the art of holding your own Trishul , to create with awareness, preserve with wisdom, and destroy with compassion.

Each act becomes sacred when it flows from inner balance, not from chaos.

Sometimes, I imagine Shiva standing silently at the edge of the cosmos, His Trishul piercing through layers of illusion – and I wonder: Can I hold mine with such steadiness? Can I cut through my fears, attachments, and self-deceptions with that same grace?

Every time I meditate, I picture a luminous Trishul within my heart , its three prongs glowing softly, its handle rooted in stillness. And I realize, the power of Shiva is not to strike , but to awaken.

Mantra for the Day

Om Tryambakam Yajamahe Sugandhim Pushtivardhanam (“We meditate on the Three-eyed One, fragrant and nourishing all beings; may He liberate us from bondage and illusion.”)

Chant it mindfully, visualizing the Trishul piercing through the fog of confusion – revealing truth, strength, and balance.

Reflection Prompt

What are the three forces or aspects in your own life that need balance – your work, relationships, and inner peace? Which of these feels out of harmony today? How can you, like Shiva, realign them with awareness rather than control?

Closing Thought

The Trishul is not a weapon – it is wisdom shaped as steel. To carry it within you is to live with fierce clarity and soft grace, cutting through illusion, yet never losing balance.

Fear is perhaps the most loyal companion on the path to the Divine. It clings to us at every turn the fear of loss, rejection, failure, the unknown. But beneath all these layers, if you look closely,
